Welcome to About us
When Elly met Peter in 1985 he had one big dream, to become a farmer.
From a very young age he always went with his dad helping farmers, milking ,clipping
hooves from cows, shearing sheep, all the tasks that goes with farming.
So they rented a little house with a little shed where
they had some sheep and calves.
They soon outgrew this and in 1987 with the help from friends and
family they bought a small farm in Holland.
They both worked full time jobs while increasing their livestock. In 1988
they had their first daughter, Eline and in 1989 there second daughter
Lisa was born. It was time to move on.
In 1991 they purchased a bigger farm so they could start full time farming.
Their third daughter Marleen was born in the same year. They enjoyed making
their living at home raising Peking ducks and sheep.
Ilze was born in 1993. Unfortunately in 1996 there son Petertje
passed away. Pieter was born in 1997, and Harold in 1999.
Frustrated from the number of rules and regulations in the Netherlands, they
decided to move to Canada in 2002 and they purchased a 215 acre farm in
Grand Valley, Ontario, Canada.
They started off with sheep and finishing pigs on straw and it was going very well.
However, as the price of pigs was not very stable and, concerned for the future
of the family and the farm, they decided to concentrate
on sheep farming.
In 2004, there son Roy was born.
In 2008 they shipped their last pigs and started
filling up their barns with Rideau Arcott sheep.
The three oldest daughters found themselves partners and moved out.
All three daughters remained in farming.
